What is the history of the office?

The firm was founded in 1913 by Georges Huygens, and is located in the Résidence "Les Hirondelles" on the Boulevard du Souverain, opposite the Château de Val Duchesse. Georges Huygens was also active in local politics. After his grandson, Pierre Garde, succeeded him in 1948, the firm continued to serve the community of Auderghem, accompanying its growing urbanisation. In 1984, Olivier Verstraete took over, continuing the firm's development for more than thirty years, before joining forces with his son Renaud Verstraete in 2010. Renaud Verstraete has continued to modernise the firm, notably by introducing the digital transition. In May 2018, he joined forces with Alexis Cruysmans and with Jérôme du Bus de Warnaffe in 2024.

What skills does a notary have?

The notary's skills are of crucial importance in many areas of law. There are three main areas of notarial activity: real estate, property law and corporate law. In these areas, our firm can provide you with expert advice on a wide range of issues, such as administrative law (town planning, housing code, etc.), environmental law (polluted soil, environmental permits, etc.) and judicial law (declarations of unseizability, childcare agreements, seizure proceedings).

As legal professionals, we are authorised to draw up and authenticate various legal documents such as contracts for the sale of real estate, wills, marriage contracts, successions, donations and many other documents.

We also provide legal and tax advice, helping our clients to make informed decisions about their family transactions and projects. Guaranteeing the authenticity and validity of the documents we draw up makes our services of paramount importance in protecting everyone's interests. We pay particular attention to international aspects and rigorously apply the rules of private international law.

In each area, we take account of changes in tax legislation, whether federal or regional (registration duties, inheritance tax, personal income tax), to ensure maximum legal certainty for your transactions and to offer you the solution best suited to your situation.

What is the tariff?

Our fees vary according to the nature and complexity of the service provided. Most of our fees are regulated by official scales. Non-regulated fees are based on the time spent on the case, the value of the assets handled, and the liabilities and risks associated with the transaction. We will be happy to provide you with detailed information on our pricing policy and to answer any questions you may have about notarial fees.
